Our Prayer
Join the Prayer Children Project

We would like to extend this project into other Songhai villages, for both girls and boys, where ministry is already taking place or where God is leading to begin ministry. Whether as an individual or your family, church group, home group... whatever, if you would like to participate in this ministry, please click here to e-mail Sally.

Here is how it all works
  1. Contact Sally Womble and let her know of your desire to be a part of this ministry
  2. For the girls, get your group or family together and make the dolls, using a simple gingerbread pattern, brown cloth for the body, and dark brown or black yarn for the hair. Paint or embroider “Irikoy gu ba nin” (God loves you) in a heart on the chest, like a Raggedy Anne doll. Start praying for your prayer child as you make the doll. It will probably be the first doll she has ever received.

Some groups have purchased baby dolls and others Barbie dolls. Still others have sent Beanie Baby-type stuffed animals. Be creative... if you have any other suggestions, let us know. For boys, you could send a deflated soccer ball per prayer child. It is not the gift, but the prayers that are important.
Somehow write or attach the name (and photo, if you would like) of the pray-er to the gift for the child. Some have sent their photos, inside a zip-lock bag, pinned to the soft doll or written on the top of the Barbie box.
  3. Box the dolls/ balls up and send them, along with a couple of rolls of 200 speed/ 35mm film (enough exposures for each pray-er to get at least one photo of his/ her prayer child—if you would rather receive digital photos, please send a blank CD), to our field address by air-mail:

        Niamey
        Niger Republic
        West Africa

On the green customs form, please indicate that this is a gift of no monetary value. Pray for the box to arrive!
  4. Read about the Songhai people’s life-style and customs, beginning on our web site, www.seekingthesonghai.net. You might be able to find information at your local library too.
  5. We will let you know when we receive the package, when we will be going out to the village, and when you can expect a picture(s) of your prayer child (children). Pray for the day your prayer child will receive his ball or her doll.
  6. Pray for your prayer child by name for the length of your commitment. This length of time is for you and God to decide and not to be taken lightly.
  7. Make sure you are on our prayer letter list.
This is what you can expect of our team
  • joy and gratitude for being a part of what God is doing among the Songhai
  • information about the Songhai people and the specific village where the doll(s)/ ball(s) will be going
  • a note to tell you that the package has arrived and what date we will be traveling to the village
  • a picture of the child who receives the doll or ball
  • a monthly prayer letter from the Songhai Team. This will not be a letter specifically about your prayer child, as there are some children who we will never ever see again. It will contain information from time to time about the village in which your prayer child lives.
This is what the Songhai Team expects of you
  • a doll for a girl or a ball for a boy, with a picture of who sent it, air-mailed to Niger
  • a blank CD or film
  • an e-mail and surface address for yourself and/or group
  • daily intercession for your prayer child for the length of time of your commitment, which you decide with God.
