On Mission With/For God...Age Has No Limits

The Dorcas class, Senior Adult Ladies, of Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church recently received pictures of the African girls who received one of the prayer dolls made by the ladies Last Spring the ladies made 16 soft-bodied dolls with "Jesus loves me" written in the Songhai language across the chest. Each lady made her doll special and different by the dress and accessories. They were shipped to SBC missionaries, Brad and Sally Womble. On November 2, 2000, Teacher Margaret Fry, received the following e-mail:

"Prayer dolls were delivered today to a village near the Malian border called Tourikoukey. There were 16 delighted little girls this afternoon (and many disappointed ones) when they received probably the first doll of their lives. Thank you again for your lifetime commitment to pray for these children, their health and safety, their education, their marriages and children, their salvation, and their walk of faith. I will be getting photos to you, hopefully you will receive them by Christmas. I have included the girls' names in this e-mail. Thank you again for being part of this ministry and these girls' lives. -- Blessings, Sally"

This project has made International Missions very personal and real. This class also has bought a goat for a family in Haiti and rabbits for a family in Ethiopia. They also purchased a water purifier for a stateside mission point.

Beginning in the summer, the ladies collected small toys, school supplies, and personal hygiene items. These were use to fill eleven Christmas decorated shoe boxes. They are a part of the Samaritan's Purse Shoe Box Ministry. Children from all over the world receive these gifts in the name of Christ. They are distributed to local pastors and missionaries by the Franklin Graham Ministries at Christmastime.

The Project Continues

Much the same as the first project, a group of believers from First Church of God in Sidney, Ohio later sent 27 soft, gingerbread-type dolls for Songhai girls. This group of ladies also made extra dolls for others in their church to adopt, those who did not sew, but wanted to participate. These believers have made a commitment to pray for the girls of Guria Bon who received the dolls.

Over the years the project has repeated itself many times over in different villages and countries. As of June 2008, we have intercessors praying for 650 Songhai children in over 50 different villages!
