Volunteer Opportunities

Children & Youth Ministry Teams.

Over 50% of the Songhai people are 15 years of age or younger. Parents are very open to their children participating in Bible studies and other activities with westerners, as youth are considered too young to make serious decisions. This is our best chance to sow the Gospel in hearts that are yet tender. The Songhai Team is looking for volunteer teams who will conduct one or two week youth programs in Songhai villages between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali. These programs could include, but are not limited to, Vacation Bible Schools, sports clinics, English clubs, beginning computer classes, soap box derbies, mini “summer” camp… use your unique talents, interests, and giftings to build relationships with Songhai children and youth as you share the love of Christ with them.

MK Teachers.

MK Teachers who can provide fun, challenging, and encouraging courses in American history, English, and literature to the Womble children during one of their four two-week school breaks (October, December, February, and April/ May). All three children attend a French school in Niamey.

Prayer Warriors.

Prayer Warriors who will come to join team members on one to two week prayer adventures on site in Songhai lands. Various teams are forming for prayer “walks” in Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali. Whether you pray by boat or camel in new areas where the team wishes to start new work or prayer walk or ride through areas where work has already begun, your lives will be touched in an unforgettable way as you experience the culture and needs of the Songhai. The lives of the Songhai People will also be touched for Eternity.

Disciplers (individual or group).

Volunteers are needed for one to two week periods to disciple Songhai believers in topical and book Bible studies, basic Christian beliefs and disciplines, and Scripture application. Help your brothers and sisters in Christ build strong Biblical foundations in their daily lives and encourage them in their faith.

Medical Help (individuals or groups).

Medical Volunteers to minister to the overwhelming health needs of the Songhai people. You will work with local church planters, missionaries and national nurses in caring for a people who live on a daily basis with malnutrition, harsh climate, disease and lack of adequate medical care. Ministry could include vaccination of children and adults, community health education, continuing education for nurses, and treatment of the sick. Opportunities are available to volunteers for one to two week projects in between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali.

Seed Sowers (groups of 2 or more only).

Seed Sowers who will participate in the mass distribution of the Gospel Message among the Songhai. This ministry could include distribution of evangelistic cassettes, Gospel portions, Jesus film videos, and Bibles. It is also possible to be involved in Jesus or God's Story film projection teams. One to two week volunteer ministry opportunities are available in new areas between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali.

Christian Athletes.

Bring your school or church team to demonstrate and teach a new sport to the Songhai youth, while sharing your faith in Christ. One to two week volunteer ministry opportunities are available in villages between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali.

Drama Teams.

Drama Teams to bring the stories of Christmas and Easter to life. Act out these Biblical histories as the story is narrated. Four-legged talent provided locally—sheep, camels and donkeys. One to two week volunteer ministry opportunities are available during the Christmas and Easter seasons in villages between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali.

English Teachers.

English Teachers to tutor high school students who are studying English to pass their final exams. You will be able to work with smaller groups of students and share, through your teaching, your faith in Jesus. Classes will be mostly conversational so you do not need to be a qualified English teacher. One to two week volunteer ministry opportunities are available in villages between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali.

Computer Teachers.

Computer Teachers to introduce high school students to the basics of computers. You would bring a few lap tops with you and work with small groups of students. You would also share your faith in Jesus Christ as you conduct the classes. You will need to be creative and prepared as most of the schools do not have electricity. One to two week volunteer ministry opportunities are available in villages between Niamey, Niger to Timbuktu, Mali.
