Sometime back, our church, FBC Madisonville, TN, adopted the Songhai people of Burkina Faso. We wanted to target one people group who had not heard the Gospel. We are investing much prayer, as well as time, effort, and financial resources that the Songhai would come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Recently, our church sent me and three other men to the region to speak with as many Songhai as possible and to encourage the three African pastors with whom we partner. During this trip, God allowed me to witness first hand, the hunger of the Songhai to hear about the Good News. Everyday we would go to a different Songhai village. We would share Jesus in small groups throughout the village. We would have about nine meetings per day with about 30-40 people in each group. From young to old, they all sat in amazement when we told them that God loved and wanted a personal relationship with them through Jesus Christ. At night, we would return to the village to show the “Jesus” Film to crowds that averaged 500-600.

This was my first international mission trip. It was a step of faith for me personally and caused me to step out of my comfort zone. But isn’t that where we need to be to see God do what only He can do? Praise God that he allowed me to play a small part in His Mater Plan to reach the Songhai in Burkina Faso…
